Have you ever felt a spiritual high—an answered prayer, a breakthrough, or a deep sense of God’s presence—only to have anxiety, fear, or discouragement hit you the next day? You’re not alone. Even Elijah experienced this. In 1 Kings 18–19, he called down fire from heaven, yet in the next chapter, he fled in fear and exhaustion.
Life—and faith—often has this rhythm: mountaintop moments followed by valleys. But the good news is, God meets us in both.
Why This Happens:
1. We’re vulnerable after a high. After a breakthrough, our bodies and emotions are full of adrenaline and hope. When the surge fades, we naturally feel tired or anxious. It’s not failure—it’s human. God sees this and meets us in rest and compassion.
2. The enemy resists momentum.
When we step forward in faith, spiritual resistance often increases. Doubt, fear, or discouragement can surface, but your victory is real, and God’s presence remains with you..
3. God draws us closer through compassion. This isn’t only about testing. God’s heart is tender. Like Elijah under the broom tree, He comforts us with food, rest, and gentle whispers. Even in the valley, His love strengthens and restores us.
3 Ways to Stay Anchored
1. Stay Anchored in God’s Word When emotions dip, His promises don’t. Verses like Isaiah 41:10—“Do not fear, for I am with you. I will strengthen you and uphold you.”—can anchor your heart. Even if you’re too tired to read, repeat it, speak it aloud, and let it calm your mind.
2. Guard Your Rest After victory, your heart races, your mind overflows, and your body wants to keep moving. Pause. Lay down your burdens before God and remind yourself: this battle belongs to Him, just like the victory did (2 Chronicles 20:15). Resting isn’t weakness—it’s wisdom. Let Him refill your strength.
3. Stay Connected Anxiety thrives in isolation. Stay close to God in prayer and surround yourself with people who encourage your faith. You don’t have to carry your journey alone—His love and support will steady you.
Encouragement
Life will have highs and lows—but the key is trusting God through it all. When you anchor yourself in His Word, rest when you’re weary, and stay connected, you don’t just survive the valleys—you grow stronger in them.
