For years, anxiety ruled my life. It wasn’t just in my mind—it took over my body. I battled cancer, diabetes, and obesity, and each time, I felt my health slipping further away. I knew I couldn’t keep living like this. Something had to change—and I knew it had to be transformational. But I had no idea where to start.
So, I prayed. I walked. I sat in silence, listening for God. And slowly, He revealed the truth: anxiety is a signal of disconnection—from ourselves, from God, and from the people around us.
I realized it often begins with unmet childhood needs—a deep, lingering sense of “not enough-ness.” That sense creeps in, whispering lies: “There’s something wrong with you… He didn’t make you right… You’ll never be enough.” And in believing those lies, we push God away, even though He has always loved us perfectly.
For me, anxiety and overwhelm had become “normal.” But after getting sick for the third time, I couldn’t ignore it anymore. I longed for a new normal—a life where peace, confidence, and connection weren’t rare moments, but the way I lived every day.
So I kept praying, kept walking, kept listening. And in that space, God poured Journey to Joy into my heart. He showed me that true healing always begins with Him—and with learning to love the woman He created me to be.
When I first began helping women with anxiety, I realized that one session—no matter how good—would never be enough. True healing requires consistent, intentional work: learning to accept our feelings, build trust with God, and embrace the truth that how He created us—fearfully and wonderfully—is part of the solution.
I remember sitting with God and confessing how I wasn’t exactly thrilled with how I’d been made.
And slowly, the answers began to come. I learned that anxiety often springs from unmet childhood needs—longings that were never fully seen or soothed. These unmet needs leave us carrying the deep, painful belief that we are not enough, not worthy, not deeply loved. We forget that God’s love for us has never wavered—and we start listening to the lies we tell ourselves instead.
It became clear that in order to truly heal, women needed to believe they are enough, worthy, and beloved, but first, they needed to learn to trust the messenger—God Himself. But how can that happen when our inner narrative keeps repeating: “There must be something wrong with me”?
That understanding gave birth to Journey to Joy. I wanted this program to start with the most important foundation: connecting deeply with our Father. From there, we learn to accept and love how He has made us—because that acceptance is the key to releasing anxiety and stepping into the life He designed for us.
So, how DO we begin to deepen our relationship with God? By leaning into the Love Letters He has given us—the Bible.
What does God call Himself in His Word? That question became the doorway.
As my clients and I began to slowly fall in love with the pictures God’s Words painted—writing in journals, reflecting, looking for His blessing—the heavy pieces of pain, hurt, and shame began to soften and lift from our hearts.
We started to sit with Him in silence, to listen for His whisper, to long for His presence like someone we could not imagine living without. We began to anticipate our time with Him, craving His nearness. And in those quiet, tender moments, we began to fall in love with Him all over again—just like the first time we truly met Him, our hearts wide open, thirsty for His love.
Armed with this new, deeper understanding of God—and the truth that we are fearfully and wonderfully made—we began to turn our attention to ourselves.
We explored the ways we were designed to thrive. What kinds of surroundings make our hearts feel at ease? Where do we feel most alive and accepted? We looked closely at how we experience love—what makes us feel cherished and seen—and how we naturally show love to others in return.
We began to uncover the things that truly matter to us, the principles and beliefs that guide our choices and shape our days. These discoveries were like opening a map of our hearts, helping us understand why we respond to life the way we do, why certain situations feel overwhelming, and why others bring joy and ease.
Step by step, we started to embrace ourselves as God created us—our sensitivities, our strengths, and even the quirks we once wished we could change. We began to see that each part of us is intentional, made to reflect God’s love in a unique way.
And as this understanding deepened, something remarkable happened: the anxiety that had once felt so overwhelming began to loosen its grip, replaced by a quiet confidence in who we are and the life God designed for us.
