I am sure you have heard the saying, ‘You cannot pour from an empty cup.’ This is why you need to learn to take care of yourself. Keeping yourself motivated is an inside job. You might do an excellent job at creating the right environment and getting the requisite resources to succeed, but if you are not taking care of yourself, you will not be able to stay motivated for very long. It is hard to keep pushing yourself to do more when your body is already falling apart under the pressure.
Our goal is not to achieve success at the expense of our health, but to take care of our health along the way. The last area that is often neglected in pursuit of success is REST.
REST is imperative for health.
For many of us, rest is like a bad word. We are busy!! We rush through life, doing good deeds, taking care of others, working, making meals, and taking care of our extended family.
And where, in all of that craziness, is there time to REST??
Rest us for vacation time – and then only when we have unpacked, gone swimming, decided what to eat for dinner, washed the bedding, played with the children, etc., etc… And to top it all off, rest looks different for everyone.
However, rest is vital for our mental health, concentration, memory, and our immune system. It helps us decrease stress and anxiety and improves our mood so we can be kinder to ourselves and others.
Rest is whatever helps you to slow down – conversely, that could mean taking a walk – as long as it allows you to recover and recharge from the mental, emotional, and physical effort used during your day.
Find small ways to incorporate rest into your EVERY DAY.
Take a few moments with your morning coffee
Go for a walk and enjoy nature
Spend a few extra moments getting ready, enjoying the feeling of being clean, and putting on clothes you feel good in.
Snatch a few moments before the children come home from school
Create space to rest and relax – ALLOW yourself to do so.
Your body, mind, and soul will thank you.
