Taking T.I.N.Y steps in the right direction can help us overcome anxiety. We have covered:
T = Transformational
I = Intentional – We began with making Intentional Mental changes.
Today, we will continue with Emotional changes. Once I began to change the way I thought, I noticed that my emotions also began to shift.
And I began to pay attention to how my thoughts affected my emotions.
There is much research about which comes first – thoughts or emotions. I am an extremely emotional person, so I generally notice my emotions first. Either way, we know that one affects the other. As I began to change my thoughts into something more hopeful, I noticed that my moods became more positive.
Bring on the Hope & Peace
This realization simply doubled my efforts to change my thoughts and manage my emotions. I began to look for ways to find peace, calm, and joy.
I noticed that as I slowed down, focused on being PRESENT in the moment, and paid attention to adjusting my thoughts, my anxiety began to decline.
I realized that I had created much of my anxiety through the way I chose to think. Not all of the anxiety I experienced came from my thinking – some came from genetics, some from how I was nurtured, and some from unpleasant experiences. But the anxiety of TODAY was controllable with the way that I THOUGHT. I could change my emotions by changing the way I chose to THINK!
So I chose positive thoughts (most of the time), I learned to slow down and BE PRESENT, and I began to adjust my emotions by managing my thoughts.
How are you managing your anxiety? Do you notice that your thoughts tend to be sad, disappointed, negative, and life-sucking?
When you choose to think more positively, do your emotions follow?
