I often speak with my clients about taking T.I.N.Y steps.
T.I.N.Y seems doable.
T.I.N.Y does not seem scary.
T.I.N.Y is possible.
Taking T.I.N.Y persistent steps in a particular direction allows us to make sustainable change.
Transformational
The first letter stands for Transformational. – Transformational change involves all of our senses. As we engage all of our senses in making changes, it is much more likely, that those changes will be successful. This is because our brain has many touch points to link it to this change. Transforming our lives involves a major shift in behaviour and thought patterns.
Intentional
The second letter, “I” stand for Intentional. Sustainable change requires deliberate, thoughtful, planned goals that we really agree with and want. If we are not intentional about change, we tend to be haphazard or chaotic which leads to confusion and an inability to maintain our trajectory.
Nurturing
The third letter “N” stands for Nurturing.
Are the changes you are asking yourself to make respectful, caring, and focused on growth?
Do they make your heart happy?
Do you look forward to making these changes because you KNOW that it will benefit you?
Do you try to find ways to make the changes palatable and connected with your values?
If your answers are “no”, then please find another way to make changes. Be kind to yourself and you will be much more likely to stick with the plan.
Yearning
The final letter is “Y” which stands for Your Yearning. All humans have deep longings to belong, to be loved, and to have freedom of choice. When the heart of our longing to change fits a yearning, we are much more likely to put up with discomfort in order to reach the goal of being loved by God, by others, and by ourselves.
